Taos Ski Valley had a little bit for everyone that went on the trip. If you like steep skiing Taos has it with over 50% of the runs being advanced and lots of double black diamond steep runs. If you like good blue cruisers then Angel Fire or Red River resorts had plenty of that type of skiing with only a short drive from Taos. Not into skiing? How about shopping or site seeing. Plenty of shopping in Taos or Santa Fe or the nearby Indian shops (just ask Lisa and Sam – they hit every shop at least once during the week). The Taos Pueblo was an interesting site to visit where they still practice their culture as they did over 1,000 years ago. The Taos Pueblo has the oldest continuing inhabited buildings in the US at well over 1,000 years. The sun sets were magnificent and the local western adobe culture was very interesting.

The snow was a little thin which was surprising with all of the dumps the west had earlier in the season but apparently most of it was north of Taos. Even with the thin snow there was plenty of skiing terrain and snow available. This was my first trip to Taos and I would make the trek again at some point in the future.

ETMM sent a large race team contingent to the Crescent Cup Finals at Snowshoe/Silver Creek, WV March 4-6 and put together some good racing results.

Weather was to become a significant factor as heavy rain was moving into the area on Saturday evening, so the decision was made by Crescent and the mountain leadership to hold the entire event on Saturday. We raced slalom in the morning from about 9:30 to 11:00, took a lunch break, reset the course for giant slalom and raced again from 12:30 to about 2:00, and were finished! We had the afternoon to free ski and play on the snow, then went back to the condos for refreshments. This early finish, or all-in-one-day racing scenario had only occurred once in the past and then, too, it was for upcoming severe weather. Most of us decided we kind of liked the format....you know, lots of free time on Saturday afternoon and evening, with no rush to load the cars on Sunday morning.

Anyway, the team didn't ski too well during the morning slalom session but did much better in the afternoon giant slalom race. When results were announced Saturday evening at the Crescent gathering the results after the slalom portion had ETMM in 5th place! However, as mentioned earlier, the team did ski better in the giant slalom races and skied our way up the placings to the 3rd spot on the podium, only 1 point out of 2nd. We were all excited to earn a team trophy after being in 5th after the slalom. So, even though we did not win the Crescent Cup this year, the ETMM race team had a very good season, winning our Division Championship again and taking 3rd place trophy in the annual Cup competition.

Doug Baker and David Sliger, qualified as new ETMM race team members. Congratulations!

Everyone raced hard and contributed to both regular season and Crescent Cup team trophies! The weekend was fun, the racing was fun, and I look forward to skiing and racing with you all next season.

What a fantastic morning taking out the Dawn of Hope residents...Mogul Mashers are the best!!!! Thank you Betsy for all the organizing...what a memorable morning it was!! ~ Terrie McCue

I wish to thank everyone that helped with Captain For A Day, Sometimes we just get to relate to the ones on our boat but they are truly a special group of individuals, and the workers have to be blessed for what they do, And the Mogul Mashers that helped I will bless all of you. I think we had over forty people at the lake party, I do wish to thank everyone for coming out and for all the food, the dock usage both of them ,the band, the drinks, the desserts, the boats, the dog, the dancing, the boat rides, the help setting up and cleaning up, The Dawn of Hope, And God for a beautiful day, I think I covered everyone but I will not name names cause if I do I am sure I would leave someone out!! You know who you are and what you did so give yourself a big pat on the back! THANK YOU! ~ Fred Rowland
