Sugar Mountain Race #1
The ETMM Race Team had a good turnout for the Sugar Mountain Race January 9th and 10th. There were 15 racers on Saturday and 16 on Sunday, and all who participated made a contribution to the team's success. After Saturday's two race runs we were tied with Knoxville for 2nd place and 3 points behind Asheville in the Western Division. On Sunday we pulled out all the stops and erased that 3 point deficit and moved into a 1st place tie with Asheville!
As an added bonus Stein Hals, Paul Lewis, and Hilary Martin qualified in flight 22 and received their Crescent Racer pin for their efforts. Now they are eligible to participate in any or all upcoming Crescent Ski Council races. Congratulations to them all!
Our weekend stars who were on the podium on BOTH days: Alan Stevens, Lisa Beregi, Beth Dison, and Richard Brillhart.
Crescent Ski Week — Whitefish, MT
CSC Spring Convention
by Alan Stevens
My first official act as president was to attend the crescent spring conference in Myrtle Beach at the Kingston Plantation. I was joined by 14 other ETMM's and 185 other Crescent members plus the tour and mountain representatives. The weather was beautiful through Saturday evening. ETMM members did well in golf and won mini golf, tug of war, men's beach run, bocce ball, and our new national sport-corn hole! We brought home 2nd place in the beach Olympics! With increased participation points next year, we can contend for the trophy. The Friday night Trade Show and DJ party was a great time to meet and mingle with the folks who actually take care of us at the mountain resorts. They are friendly people who truly want us to have the best time on our trips. The Saturday Mardi Gras Party was spectacular and came complete with New Orleans Jazz Band. The wind and rain chased us off the beach Sunday morning, which was the only good reason to want to leave. A great Spring Convention and beach weekend was had by all!
Project Rescue Dog—Tails from Margaritaville
by Barb Lang
On June 12th a group of Mogul Mashers joined along with the Hillbilly Parrot heads in effort to help save abandoned, unwanted dogs. Thanks to the Parrot heads, HB Beverley was enticed to sing at Lakeview marina in Jimmy Buffet style. It was a hot day besides HB's singing which filled the marina, but folks still managed to hop up and dance! Many Thanks to the Parrot heads for the development of this great charity event!
4th of July Party
at the Mabry's
Watauga Lake Party
at Sliger's by Barb Lang
A Gracious Thank you goes out to The Sliger’s, Bakers', and Fred Rowland for hosting a lake party at the Sliger’s cottage on Watauga Lake. Weather was hot and beautiful for a day of floating in the lake as well as a houseboat ride-Thanks Fred! Let’s do it again next year!
Mogul Mashers Golf Scramble & Pool Party
by Rookie Sliger
ETMM Golf Tournament was again lots of fun at Crockett's Ridge, despite a round of golf taking 6 hours. As the picture alludes, there were only 4 true hard ETMM members playing golf, but we had 9 total. Mark Dison decided to bring out the whole family to play which they are a blast. The winners of the tournament however were MARK MABRY and ROOKIE SLIGER, our putting was HOT! Alan Stevens drives were right on but not enough to beat us, three under!
19th hole was at the home of Lisa and Mark Mabry. Mark grilled great chicken, brats and all brought a covered dish. I think there were at least 50 people there. Thanks again Mabry's for hosting. Your pool never felt better after a hot day on the course.

Anyone that likes cold beer (is cold beer one word or two) good Blue grass music, and good looking women in cowboy boots and short dresses this is a must do! Three of East Tennessee's elite Masher's made the trip on September 18th to Asheville and after touring the town on foot we came upon the park that no one in the city knows of. There are forty plus microbreweries, different bands every hour and lots people, even thought the tickets are limited and they sell out in less than a week (tickets go on sale in May). ETMM needs to put this one on their must do list even thought it conflicts with UT football (we were receiving up dates via cell phones). We had a great time and a DD thanks’ Barb, don't forget the Oktoberfest @ Sugar on the 9th and 10th OCT.
Fall Beach Trip—Hilton Head, SC
by Buddy Ball
On the long weekend of October 14 – 17, sixteen Mogul Mashers revived the annual tradition of the Fall Beach Trip to Hilton Head Island – sort of. There were no official parties, meetings, or beach Olympics and Hilton Head is not known for extracurricular activities BUT we had a great time! The weather was perfect and there were a lot of people on the beach; there was even a beach wedding on Friday.
Mark and Lisa Morgan, along with Conner, joined the trip, their first beach trip with the Mogul Mashers in several years. Mark Mabry and Alan played golf and Fred and Buddy drove to the Lighthouse on Saturday morning, had lunch on South Beach at the Salty Dog Café bar and didn’t make it to the beach until almost 4 pm. Cathy, Rick, Buddy and Fred took their bikes and went riding both Friday and Saturday mornings- definitely a first. Each morning Aaron and Cindy, Barbara, Lisa ( 3 Lisa’s actually), John, Betsy and the rest went their own way but each night we ended up in someone’s room playing LRC; if you don’t know use your imagination. In between we spent the day lounging on the beach, playing Hillbilly Horseshoes and resting a lot at the Tiki Bar on the beach.
While it’s always the people that make a trip great, going to a place like Hilton Head doesn’t hurt. ALREADY LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT FALL!
